Shrimp White Rice Sake Cabbage

Sake-Steamed Shrimp and Cabbage Rice Bowl

A light and aromatic bowl featuring tender cabbage and succulent shrimp infused with the delicate sweetness of sake.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white rice
  • 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup sake
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1.5 cups water

Instructions

The sake creates a fragrant steam that softens the cabbage and seasons the shrimp perfectly.

  1. Combine rice, water, and a pinch of salt in a small pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until water is absorbed.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add sliced cabbage to the skillet and sauté for 3 minutes until it begins to wilt.
  4. Add shrimp to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Pour sake into the pan and immediately cover with a lid. Steam for 2–3 minutes until shrimp are opaque and cooked through.
  6. Fluff the rice and divide into bowls. Top with the shrimp and cabbage, drizzling any remaining sake liquid from the pan over the dish.

Serve with a sprinkle of freshly cracked black pepper.
